Some rambling about my PhD application

Since I prepared to find a Ph.D. position to continue my research, it has been a long time. During that period, I nearly emailed a potential professor or doctor every day. However, I truly understand they are all very busy, so I seldom got replies.

For the first stage, I wanted to join KTH, because one of the teachers in my master’s group graduated from KTH. But unfortunately, I didn’t get any reply, and there weren’t any suitable positions released. As time went by, I missed the potential chances in Paris. So during the second stage, I checked all the application websites every day, and I got a lot of messages from many kind teachers or researchers to whom I had sent emails. Although most of them told me that they had already found Ph.D. candidates, I finally found two kind doctors who were willing to interview me. At that time, I felt so lucky, and I refused another interview invitation from the Max Planck Institute, until they finally confirmed that all the funding had been allocated to other projects.

At the same time, some good news came out about a Ph.D. position that I had recommended to my girlfriend, and now she has started her visa process. I still try to find some suitable positions and send a lot of emails every day. Sometimes I think maybe I am not good enough, so I have tried to learn all the fundamental knowledge from the fields I’m interested in, such as Physics, Computational Materials Science, Condensed Matter Physics, and Plasma Physics, etc. But I soon found that if I didn’t figure out a clear direction to move forward, I wouldn’t have enough motivation to learn them, so I paused. Finally, I decided to make my own personal website during my spare time to share something about myself and to prepare for my later research life.

So all in all, I will continue seeking a proper Ph.D. position and try to make myself match with it. If someone has any recommendations, please feel free to contact me.
